It's amazing when a song chooses you to be the instrument it sings through. This is what happened to me while in Mount Shasta on Sunday, May 31. While Angelenos and people throughout the country were taking to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd and call for equality and justice, I was helping a friend move. I remember driving to Mount Shasta, staying tuned to certain news sites and social media on what was unfolding in L.A. and throughout the country. I didn't know what to offer and had prayed for direction on what to give during this time. I was wondering how I could contribute and be of greater service.

Hours before preparing for the drive back to L.A., I stopped in a crystal shop to see what they had. I played on a few singing bowls and saw some shakers there that I liked. I knew something was coming home with me but wasn't sure what exactly. I walked around the store and saw this spaceship looking instrument and without thought, I picked it up. I grabbed the mallet and started playing. Within seconds, I was singing. I wasn't fully conscious of what I was singing ... my mouth was open and the words were singing through me. I finished and when I looked at my friend, she was holding up her iPhone and said, "Got it." She had recorded the whole experience. When she played the video back for me, I knew I had something and I knew I had to move on it. I bought the instrument, which is a Hapi Omni Drum, and got back on the road to L.A. A week later, I was in the studio recording "Calling Me."

Lyrics

I hear the rhythm
I hear it calling me
I hear the rhythm
calling me from my sleep

Ooo
Ooo

Heal my broken mind
Heal my hurting soul
Heal all my children
When I am healed I'm not healed alone

Ooo
Ooo

It's time to wake up children
It's time to come back home
It's time to make a stand
Don't want to do this alone
We are tired
From all the pain and the strife
We are tired
Of all the ways you take our lives

Great Holy Spirit!
Hear our prayer
Great Holy Spirit!

Ooo
Ooo

It's time to heal
It's time to feel
It's time to heal
It's time to feel

Ooo
Ooo
Ooo
Ooo

When I am healed, I'm not healed alone
When I am healed, I'm not healed alone
